Become a MemberMembership in the Shock Society is available to those individuals with an interest in any aspect of shock, trauma, or critical care medicine. The mission of the Shock Society is to improve the care of victims of trauma, shock, and sepsis using a multidisciplinary approach to promote basic science and translational research and provide education and mentoring to new investigators. Activities directed toward the Society’s mission include:
SHOCK is the official publication of the North American/United States Shock Society. The cost of membership is $260 for a full membership, which includes an online subscription to the Shock journal. Student memberships are $50 and do not include the journal, Post-Graduate Trainee memberships are $175 and also do not include the journal. Individuals may apply online or in writing by downloading the Society’s membership application here.
Member Types: Student Member- A person applying for student membership must have genuine and active interest in the aims and purposes of the Society. Applicants must be sponsored by an active full member of the Society. Student membership does not include voting privileges in the Society. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of membership and provide a curriculum vitae in addition to a letter of recommendation from their sponsor. Student members may be recommended by an active full member of the Society for 1 year term limited appointment on a Committee during which they are required to attend the annual Society meeting. Post-Graduate Trainee Member- A person applying for post-graduate trainee membership must have genuine and active interest in the aims and purposes of the Society. Applicants must be sponsored by an active full member of the Society. Post-graduate trainee membership does not include voting privileges in the Society. Applicants must provide evidence of completion of a doctoral program and be enrolled in a post-graduate training program (residency program, post-graduate, or clinical fellowship program)at the time of membership as well as provide a curriculum vitae. Post-graduate trainee members may be recommended by an active full member of the Society for 1 year term limited appointment on a Committee during which they are required to attend the annual Society meeting. Associate Member- A person who shares the stated purpose of the Council and has completed their terminal degree and are no longer in any training program, but are not an independent investigator (research coordinators, lab managers, research assistants, technicians, support staff) may apply as an associate member. Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae and must be sponsored by an active full member. Applications must be submitted to the Society office and will then be transmitted to the Membership Committee for approval. Applicants will have voting rights within the Society but will not be eligible for committee assignments. Full Member- A person who shares the stated purpose of the Council and is eligible under Article III of the Constitution may be appointed as a full member. Members can be any person who is a current independent investigator or prefers to have the benefits of full membership. Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae. Applications must be submitted to the Society office and will then be transmitted to the Membership Committee for approval. Full members will have voting rights within the Society and be eligible for committee assignments. Emeritus Member- Members who have retired may apply to the Council for election to emeritus status. Emeritus Members shall pay no dues but shall have all rights and privileges of full members. Memberships and subscriptions are not refundable. |
